Two well-known Bundesliga clubs, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt, have been linked with Jeff Chabot in recent weeks. The 1.FC Cologne central defender has an exit clause in the event of relegation and is also wanted elsewhere. With VfB Stuttgart, a third club joins us – the Swabians are even said to be leading the race for the 26-year-old.
According to “Sky”, Stuttgart has the best chance of recruiting Chabot. There are concrete discussions about a transfer this summer. Even if the left-hander currently wants to focus on the remaining two games with the Effzeh and make a final decision after the season, the VfB can have legitimate hopes of being accepted. According to reports, an amount of 4 million euros would be due if Cologne do not make up the five-point gap which separates them from 16th place in the table (see table).

Chabot is ready this season and has become one of the most powerful central defenders in the Bundesliga when it comes to tackling. His market value has steadily increased from €2 million to €9 million over the past year and a half, making him currently his team’s most valuable player. A sale if they were to remain in the league would be impossible given the transfer ban, as FC general manager Christian Keller recently explained.
Guirassy in third place: VfB Stuttgart’s most expensive purchases
At VfB, planning for the double burden begins with the Champions League and Chabot would strengthen the squad in central defense, especially in terms of width. With Waldemar Anton, Hiroki Ito, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Anthony Rouault, permanently recruited, next season’s team currently has four central defenders. Stuttgart also have a purchase option on loanee Leonidas Stergiou, worth an estimated €2.5 million.
