…better and better

The (Site notre blog d’information) database is enriched with another milestone: the 1963/64 season of the Regionalliga Süd, the predecessor of the 2nd Bundesliga, is fully recorded. It started alongside the Bundesliga, where FC Bayern at the time wanted to be promoted. But the Munich team missed out on promotion despite finishing second. One of the greatest German (Site notre bureau spécialisé)ers in history celebrated his promotion debut.
After 38 match days, Hessen Kassel was at the top of the table with three points ahead of FC Bayern. Both teams impressed with excellent attack, but had problems on defense. Kassel scored one more goal than FC Bayern and had the better attack with 116 goals. However, both teams also conceded 61 goals, more than eleventh-placed Waldhof Mannheim. The top scorer was Klaus-Peter Jendrosch from Kassel, who scored 34 times.
Kassel and FC Bayern failed in the promotion round. The champions found themselves behind Hannover 96 in their group. FC Bayern missed out on promotion behind Borussia Neunkirchen. They had clearly won twice against FC St. Pauli. In the 4-0 victory in the first meeting against Hamburg, Franz Beckenbauer made his debut for Munich at the age of 18 years, 8 months and 26 days. The Kaiser scored his first goal in the first match. FC Bayern achieved promotion a year later. In the fourth Bundesliga season, they won the league title for the first time (among all Bayern historical rankings).
