Liverpool second after 3-0
Manchester City missed the chance to extend their lead in the Premier League and drew for the first time this season. At Chelsea FC, coach Pep Guardiola’s team scored a spectacular 4:4 (2:2) on Sunday. Former Dortmund player Erling Haaland scored twice again in London.
At Stamford Bridge, Haaland initially gave Man City the lead with a 25th-minute penalty. Shortly after, Thiago Silva (29th) equalized for the hosts. Former City striker Raheem Sterling (37th) made it 2-1 for Chelsea before former BVB defender Manuel Akanji (45th+1) equalized for Guardiola’s side led by the former Leipzig player Josko Gvardiol. The score was 2-2 at halftime.
Immediately after the restart, Haaland scored again (47th). The wild exchanges of blows between the two teams continued. After Nicolas Jackson’s equalizer (67th), both teams were aiming for victory. Chelsea striker Silva deflected an unstoppable shot from Rodri from Manchester (86th) for his goalkeeper Robert Sánchez. But Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (90+5), who came from Man City’s youth ranks and transferred to Chelsea for €47m in the summer, scored the final point with his converted penalty to make it 4-4.

Man City tops the Premier League table with 28 points, one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool and third-placed Arsenal. Fourth place is occupied by Tottenham Hotspur (26 points). Chelsea FC, which emerged from the crisis a week ago thanks to a 4-1 victory at Spurs, remains in tenth place in the standings after the draw.
Liverpool are second in the Premier League after beating Brentford 3-0
Liverpool FC moved up to second place in the table with their sixth consecutive home victory this season. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team won 3-0 (1-0) on Sunday before the international break against the recently in good form FC Brentford and thus overtook Tottenham and, thanks to the better difference of goals, also Arsenal FC, who were tied on points.
Egyptian star striker Mohamed Salah (39th/62nd minute) scored twice for the Reds at Anfield and thus reached the 200 goal mark in English (Site notre bureau spécialisé). Diogo Jota (74th) made the decision. Liverpool had been unlucky on several occasions before. Two goals from Darwin Núñez were disallowed for offside.
The London visitors, still without long-suspended striker Ivan Toney, played well for long periods and had good chances, but failed to capitalize on them. After three consecutive league wins, Brentford have slipped to tenth place in the Premier League table.
