Really the measure of things

The Spanish La Liga has published the salary caps for the new season. The figures are intended to reflect the maximum expenditure that clubs can make during a season and represent a decisive factor in personnel planning. At FC Barcelona, after years of savings, there is a significant increase in the maximum possible expenditure, but this does not bring any relief.
From 270 million euros, the Catalans rise to 426 million euros, surpassing Atlético Madrid, which is downgraded from 311 million to 296 million. Real Madrid is still in the lead with 755 million euros (previously 727 million euros), which can easily pay the salary of Kylian Mbappé, and not only because of the end of Toni Kroos’ career. In addition to the players’ salaries, the salaries of all club employees are also included in the ceilings. The same goes for the reserve teams and youth teams of the clubs. Each club’s ceiling is linked to its income.
For Barcelona, the significant increase in the maximum possible spending does not mean that the financial problems of recent years have been overcome. New signing Dani Olmo could only be named for La Liga matches due to the injury of already registered Andreas Christensen, and an additional income exemption is required in the winter transfer window in order to register the Spaniard for the second half of the season.
Sevilla FC, which is also experiencing financial difficulties, is at the bottom of the salary cap and was fourth in the league last year with 169 million euros. For the new season, the Andalusians’ salary cap is only 2.5 million euros. Due to the tense situation within the club, top players such as Youssef En-Nesyri (27) and Lucas Ocampos (30) were sold this summer and the contracts of Sergio Ramos (38), among others, were not extended. Important: The upper limit in La Liga is only a recommendation. Clubs can also spend more, but must then expect fines and loss of points.
