The German Under-21 team around double goalscorer Maximilian Beier heads into the European Championship year unbeaten after a draw in France. In the 2-2 (1-0) draw in Valenciennes, France, the German team missed out on a tangible victory by conceding a goal in stoppage time.
The DFB team had a dream start at the Stade du Hainaut, even without Heidenheim’s Paul Wanner, who left injured, where many seats remained empty. Dortmund’s Beier (5th/50th minute) put the German (Site notre blog d’information) Association team ahead 2-0. Mathys Tel (62′) from FC Bayern Munich reduced the score from the penalty spot, then Joker Loum Tchaouna (90’+3) from Lazio Rome scored.
After Friday’s 3-0 victory over Denmark, national under-21 coach Antonio Di Salvo’s side were winless at the end of the year, unbeaten in 13 matches. His team also remained undefeated in qualifying.
On the way to the final of the European Championship from June 11 to 28 in Slovakia, the German team was once again in good form. The groups for the final round will be drawn on December 3 in Bratislava. The last test matches before the European Championships are scheduled for March.
“A year without defeat is always something great and the beer after work tastes better,” said DFB vice-president Ronny Zimmermann. The last time the German junior national team lost was at the disappointing 2023 Summer European Championship, when they were eliminated last in the group after the preliminary round. This summer, the DFB selection wants to present itself completely differently. “There’s a lot of potential there that we haven’t seen yet.” I am convinced of that,” said Zimmermann of ProSieben Maxx.
