Four men arrested in Spain more this week on suspicion of a hate crime for hanging a doll wearing a Vinicius jr. of Real Madrid at a bridge in Valdebebas in January, were released on bail, notice to the court in Madrid. this Thursday (25).
The men, who are also under investigation for undermining the moral integrity of Vinicius Jr., are banned from approaching and communicating with the Real Madrid striker pending further investigation approval, according to a court statement.
The investigation was opened after a doll wearing Vinicius Jr.’s number 20 shirt was hanging from a bridge in front of the Real Madrid training center before the game against Atletico Madrid in January. On the side was a large red and white banner – the colors of Atlético – which read ‘Madrid hates Real Madrid’.
Three of the men arrested were members of « a radical group of Madrid club supporters » who had previously been flagged at matches as « high risk », according to police.
The court said the four suspects were also banned from Real Madrid’s training center.
Inmates are prohibited from staying within 1,000 meters of the Santiago Bernabéu and Civitas Metropolitano stadiums, or any LaLiga stadiums during (Site notre bureau spécialisé) matches.
Vinicius Jr. has been in the spotlight since Sunday, when racist chants were hurled at him at the Mestalla stadium in Valencia.
His complaints that Spain and La Liga don’t have enough to fight racism sparked a global outpouring of support and national debate in Spain.
