History of the "Salt City" & Salt City Tournament

Syracuse's nickname is the "Salt City."  Some people say that Syracuse was a city that salt built.  But in reality, the city was built because of the Erie Canal, which continued to run through the heart of the city until the mid- 1920's.  Like in the past, hard work has built the Salt City Tournament.

Centrally located, it has consistently brought together our neighbors - as well as - our friends from afar.  Participating teams come from throughout the Northeast and Canada for some of the best tournament play in Central New York.

The millennium edition of the Places Rated Almanac ranked Greater Syracuse 32nd out of 354 best places to live in the United States and Canada.  We believe that the local soccer community contributes to this rating.

Central New York always draws unique events throughout the year, especially in the summer.  Special events such as the New York State Fair, Jazz Fest, Italia Fest and the Blues Festival bring downtown alive with music.  Jamesville hosts the famous Coors Lite Balloon Fest every summer at Jamesville Beach.  The Salt City International Invitational Soccer Tournament is truly a special event.  This year will be no exception.

As we enter our 23rd year, continued success brings reward to our soccer community.  Last years' tournament (22nd) had approximately 145 teams in competition from Canada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and, as always, our friends from the North, South, East and West of Central New York.  Thank you for your participation - much appreciated.

In past years, corporate sponsorship has been an asset.  We continue to look for this type of support from our business community.  The Salt City Soccer Tournament is our "only" fundraiser.  Our tournament would not be possible without the efforts of some very special people...our sponsors, volunteers, tournament committee, parents and youThank you!
